Why did you become a teacher?

I became a teacher to help students feel seen, valued, and capable. Students deserve a space where they can grow in ability and confidence; and know they matter.

What’s one thing you’d love for KTEC families to know about you?

I bring more than two decades of experience in education to my role as a third grade teacher at KTEC Schools of Innovation. Known for my calm presence, intentional instruction, and ability to build meaningful connections with students, I believe in creating a classroom environment where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

In my classroom, where students are affectionately called “Van Laningham VIPs”, I build a culture of belonging and excellence. Guided by Maya Angelou’s quote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” I leads with kindness, care, and a deep respect for each student’s journey.

Throughout my career, I have taught Kindergarten and third grade. Additionally, I have served in multiple capacities including library assistant, early childhood art educator, Preschool Administrator, and instructional leader. I hold a 316 Wisconsin Reading Teacher license and have additional training in Orton-Gillingham Morphology, and Act 20 practices, which support a strong foundation in literacy and intervention.

I am excited to bring my experience, creativity, and heart for students to the KTEC community. Outside of school, I enjoy scrapbooking with friends, and going to Disney World with my family.
