Careers in This Field
Information Technology is one of the most versatile pathways available — IT skills are needed in every industry, from manufacturing and healthcare to finance and government. Below is a look at where this pathway leads, organized by the education level each role typically requires.
Why This Field in Kenosha County
Kenosha County sits at the edge of one of the country’s most active technology corridors. With Foxconn/FII USA’s regional presence and a growing base of tech-forward manufacturers, logistics companies, and healthcare systems all requiring IT infrastructure, local demand for skilled IT workers continues to expand.
Information Technology at KTEC
Courses at KTEC
Every KTEC student builds a foundation in our dedicated technology labs before moving into pathway-specific coursework. For IT students, that foundation is directly relevant — from day one, students are working with real systems, real tools, and real problem-solving that mirrors what they’ll encounter in the field.
KTEC Core Courses
Tech 1
Introduction to technology systems, tools, and problem-solving in a hands-on lab environment.
Tech 2
Advanced application of technology concepts, with increasing focus on precision and project work.
Tech 3
Specialized technology applications with deeper emphasis on pathway-relevant skills and independent projects.
Digital Art
Design fundamentals and digital production skills — directly applicable to UI/UX, web design, and media roles.
Industrial Safety
Workplace safety standards, hazard identification, and safe equipment operation practices.
Gateway Technical College Courses
IT students at KTEC can begin earning college credit in programming, networking, and security before they graduate — through our partnership with Gateway Technical College. These aren’t introductory survey courses. Students cover IBM enterprise systems, Python, Java, IoT, and network security — the same coursework Gateway delivers to students in its full IT programs.
Certifications & Credentials
KTEC IT students graduate with both college credit and a portfolio of technical certifications — the kind that hiring managers and IT apprenticeship programs look for when evaluating candidates who are newer to the field.
Pathway-Specific Certifications
Certifications Available to All KTEC Students
Work-Based Learning & CTSOs
KTEC students don’t have to wait for graduation to start building a career. Paid work experience with local employers and hands-on trade competitions give them a real head start while they’re still in high school.
Post-Secondary Options
Information Technology graduates leave KTEC with something that most entry-level applicants don’t have: demonstrated technical skills, real-world experience, and college credit already on the books.
